Paramount, 20th Century Fox & Speilberg Join Open DVD

In separate announcements, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and Stephen Speilberg have finally confirmed their first scheduled DVD releases on the standard sell-through or "open" DVD format.

Paramount's first 10 DVD titles include Star Trek: First Contact, Top Gun, and Clear & Present Danger. 20th Century Fox first 8 DVD titles include The Abyss, Porky's 1, and Predator 1. In contrast to earlier announcements, Paramount has decided to hold back Titanic on DVD until sometime next year. Also absent was Lucasfilm's Star Wars Trilogy, for which 20th Century Fox has exclusive home video rights. Pricing for both studios' releases are set at $29.95 list, except for 20th Century Fox's Hope Floats & Home Alone 3, which will command a hefty $34.95 list.

Stephen Speilberg's first approved DVD release will be The Mask Of Zorro. Also expected is a DVD announcement for Deep Impact, which is a co-production of Speilberg's Dreamworks studio and Paramount.
